Global City Status: This documentary focuses on the decline of the nation-state on the international level and the ascent of the 'global city'. It will analyze how and why some cities have benefitted with the trend of globalization (including Toronto, Vancouver, New York, Frankfurt, Amsterdam) while others have lost out (including Buffalo and Pittsburg). It is due to a changing economy from a manufacturing based economy to a service and information based economy and has brought greater importance to individual cities as opposed to nations. The documentary will also focus on the Niagara Region by analyzing how the globalization trend has negatively impacted the area. It will look at what changes will have to occur for the region to prosper. |
